Respecting Your Body in Food Choices

Do you treat your body like a garbage can, consuming whatever you see simply because it’s there? Do you assume “comfort foods” will comfort you when they really leave you with heartburn, stomach pain, and remorse?

I saw it sitting there on the kitchen table…a cream-filled donut with chocolate icing on top. Before I knew it, it was down the hatch! What was I doing? Why did I take more time deciding what to wear in the morning than what foods to put into my body?

I realized that I was not loving myself or respecting my body, which has been my home for all these years. It has served me well despite how I have treated it. I thought about how I would treat something or someone I loved.

I determined that I needed to change for several reasons. First of all, how I feel is more important to me than the passing pleasure of consuming foods that hurt my body. Secondly, good health and vitality has become increasingly significant. The older I get, the more I want to accomplish in the time I have left on earth. Thirdly, I want to love myself and that involves choosing my foods more mindfully and with great respect for my body.
